About Grade 5 Life Skills
Grade 5 Life Skills builds on Grade 4, but three things are new: online safety, rights and responsibilities, and environmental health.
Cyberbullying deserves the most attention, because it works differently from bullying on the school grounds. It follows a child home, it does not stop when the bell rings, and a message or photo can reach hundreds of people within minutes. The answers here therefore say the same thing each time: do not reply, keep the evidence, and tell an adult.
Rights are now linked to responsibilities. The right to education brings the responsibility to attend; the right to your own opinion brings the responsibility to respect other people's.
Frequently asked questions
How is cyberbullying handled?
With the same rule as all the safety questions: the answer always points towards a trusted adult. No question suggests that a child should deal with a bully or a dangerous situation alone.
My child got a difficult question. Is it appropriate?
The curriculum includes bullying, safety and case studies, and the paper tests them. We keep the questions to what a Grade 5 needs to know, and every answer contains a safe, practical step.
Can I do these with my child?
That is the best way to use this subject. Do ten questions together and talk about the case studies — the conversation is worth more than the mark.
Are these the same questions as in our PDF papers?
No. These are separate, original questions covering the same CAPS content.
