About Grade 6 NST
Grade 6 shifts from separate topics to systems. A food web was a set of chains in Grade 5; in Grade 6 it is part of a whole ecosystem in which soil, water, climate and living things work together.
The same shift happens in technology. A torch is no longer just a circuit — it is a system with an input (the battery), a process (the circuit) and an output (light). Once a child can point out those three parts in any device, the whole technology section falls into place.
Electricity gets finer too: the difference between a series and a parallel circuit explains why one broken globe does not leave your whole house in the dark.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a series and a parallel circuit?
In series there is only one path, so all the globes go out if one breaks. In parallel each globe has its own path, so the rest stay on. Houses are wired in parallel, and the paper asks why.
My child confuses solar and lunar eclipses.
Remember who stands in the middle. In a solar eclipse the Móón stands between the Sun and the Earth. In a lunar eclipse the Eárth stands between the Sun and the Moon and casts a shadow on it.
Which topic carries the most marks?
Ecosystems and food webs together. Both are about how energy moves and how the parts of a system depend on one another — the thread that runs through the whole paper.
